G4 has screwed up.   There are many ways I can go with this after that statement, but here is one you probably weren’t expecting.  G4 has screwed up because in the mornings they are now showing what they USED to be, a channel about videogames.  Some of the fair isn’t all that great.  (old X-play, I’m looking at you)  However you can see a commitment to gaming in those old telecasts.  Now what do we get?  Cops, Japanese game shows, and a show about people upchucking (No, I’m not kidding).  I don’t know who the monkey’s are that run this channel, but frankly, I think its time to get rid of the utter bullcrap and get back to what I even wanted the damn channel for.

Back when there was TechTV and G4, I only had TechTV.  I enjoyed it immensely,  mostly because from top to bottom they talked about stuff I cared about, that being tech stuff, computers, videogames, etc.  From what my friends who had G4 told me, G4 focused mainly on the gaming culture, which was also a good thing.  When the 2 channels decided to merge and I began to see G4 programming, the production value wasn’t as high as TechTV from what I saw, but it was still enjoyable.  Over time though, things have deteriorated to what we have now.

I can say there is some good though.  The new X-Play has been much more informative and enjoyable than it was when it was a bunch of juvenile humor to become something you actually want to refer to when it comes to getting news and reviews on games again.  I feel Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb, along with Kristin Holt have raised the production value of X-Play where I actually enjoy it, to a point where I will sit down and watch it.

But for the good, there is a whole lot of bad.  I feel Attack of the Show could be loads better if they would drop some of the idiotic segments they do, and get rid of a certain host.  I’m of course referring to Olivia Munn.  Olivia obviously got her job based on her looks alone.   Granted, she is a looker, see pic below:

However I can say with great authority that she knows dink about games and probably gets most of her knowledge of such from pre-show notes.  They really need to get someone into the co-host spot that knows what the hell they’re talking about.  I swear she says/does some of the dumbest things and you’re sitting there like “Oh my God no one can be that dumb”.  And yet, there it is,  So AOTS, intelligence please?

So this is what G4 needs to do, drop re-runs, old crap, and new crap like Hurl, do a revamp of Attack of the Show in the same vein as X-Play, and drop idiotic hosts.  Create new shows centered on the gaming culture again and do not alienate your core audience.  I want G4 to be a channel I can sit down and just about watch every show.  I don’t expect perfection, but I would like to see some massive improvement across the board.
