No, there are ground missions involving combat among other things, they're just not nearly as fun.  I have some ground pictures from earlier this week I have yet to put up, so I'll see if I can get them on Photobucket at lunch and get them here for you.  Also, welcome back Eyun

As promised, more STO screens.  Not as promised, not very many ground shots.  Turns out I thought most of them sucked (its nigh impossible to take good shots during ground action)...

More pics of the USS Corsair

A few shots at the Wolf 359 Memorial (the site of the 40 starship massacred made possible by Captain Picard being assimilated by the Borg)

These are size comparison shots of a Star Cruiser I found, whose owner named it the USS Sentinel.  You'll see my Akira class ship underneath for a sense of scale.  These things are huge

These are shots of me fighting the Crystaline Entity.  We lost...

And a few more shots of the Firebrand for good measure

gah.. I needs new computer and fancy graphics card.

I don't have screens of it yet. But I made Captain last night and upgraded to Long Range Science Vessel, Intrepid class. I think you're already familiar with that design. Tongue

I think I'll go watch some Voyager now.

Good design for a ship, terrible writing for a show...

You don't have a PCIe slot do you?  Bear in mind I'm running the game on a 2 year old rig.  Thats only a GeForce 8800 GTS and a Core 2 Duo 2.6 Ghz, 2GB of DDR2 1066.  Nothing particularly fancy by today's standards.  You should be able to get something equivalent or better for a reasonable price

I think I'm better off getting a new computer than putting a new card in this one. It's starting to show it's age lately. Though I would get a new card soon after replacing the whole rig. I'm in no rush, I'll wait for it to die of natural causes rather than take it out back and shoot it.

It's an old ATI card is the biggest problem, low end PCIe, and top of that an old dual core 2.00 ghz. Next card needs to be Nvidia, nobody seems to optimize for ATI, can never enable all the graphics effects and the draw distance is poopypants. I won't even get started on the monitor issues.. well I will. It's a very very very old CRT monitor I had to switch to after my LCD quit. Damn thing is never bright enough, I end up having to crank up the in game gamma and then it looks all washed out.

Yeh, go on Newegg and put some parts together.  You never know what you'll find.  A machine thats more than capable of running STO can be built with less than state of the art parts

Nah, I've never tried and don't intend to try to throw some parts together. I'll wait until this one dies, get a new machine from someplace like BestBuy here in town, and I'll give it a better graphics card than this one has. I have enough trouble just swapping out simple components like that, I don't need the hassle of trying anything more complicated.  Besides, I can't have large packages like the one a computer would come in shipped to my apartment building. It would just end up back at the FedEx or UPS depot across town and I'd have to trouble someone else to give me a ride to pick it up.  See, I have a long list of reasons why I haven't done that, which is why I haven't done it.

Well, I know I said I was gonna wait until I got a new PC before I got the card. But... I got the card anyway. And it appears the noise coming from inside the system that made me think it was dying... was the old card's fan. It hasn't made any such noise since I changed them.

New Card is NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT  it's only about 500% better than the old card.

Unfortunately the processor is way underpowered to play a lot of the newer games I'd like to, but this thing at least handles the ones I have and improves them substantially. It does things that would make my old card explode.

Color?  Hah!  I've merely been so busy racing that I've yet to take anytime to play with the livery editor...perhaps sometime this weekend I will play with paint...
